Rape Investigation Begins With Photos Posted Online

ATHENS, Ohio (WKRC) -- There is a sexual assault case coming out of Ohio University in Athens.

The victim says she became aware of her rape after seeing it posted on the social media site, Instagram.

Police say they've spoken to both the man and woman in the post and they're trying to figure out exactly what happened.  No arrests have been made so far in the case.

The 20-year-old woman contacted Athens police Sunday night.  She said she was raped Saturday between 1a.m. and 6a.m. on a street near campus.

Within hours, photos and video of the incident appeared online.  They show a sex act against the window of a bank.  Along with the person taking the photo, there is at least one other bystander visible.

Officers urge the public not to rush to judgment.  They have not yet found the people who witnessed and posted about the incident, and fear the public backlash may keep them from coming forward.
