City Leaders Get Better Look at Streetcar

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- City leaders got a better look at the streetcar during a special projects meeting Tuesday morning. Local 12 reporter Adam Clements has more from that meeting.

The outside of the streetcar looks sleek, the inside resembles a Metro bus. Streetcar project executive John Deatrick says there are plans to sell ads on the inside to raise money.

Developers are excited about the new features. Says John Deatrick, "the idea is economic energy generated by the circulation of people, people being able to get around, get to where they want to go, get to where they want to go, will generate economic activity and bring more money into the city's coffers".

Viginia Verdeja says "the accessibility to the car is fantastic. The way you can go in and out from any of the doors makes it easy to board and easy for older people, for people with wheelchairs, for people with strollers, people with bicycles. Just in general it makes it a user-friendly mode of transport".

Today's meeting was about the nuts and bolts of the streetcar and the track. Deatrick says the streetcar is on schedule. The Over-the-Rhine loop is scheduled to be finished in June of 2015.
