Italian Magazine Alleges NSA Spying on Cardinals

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKRC) -- More allegations of US spying and this time from the Vatican.

An Italian magazine claims US security agencies spied on the College of Cardinals as they prepared to elect a new Pope back in March.  "Panorama Magazine" claims the NSA eavesdropped on phone calls in and out of the Vatican leading up to the Conclave.

It even claims Pope Emeritus Benedict the 16th had his phone tapped.

The magazine cites no source for its information and Vatican officials say it has no concerns about the US tapping its phones.

There's been no comment from Washington.

The magazine also claims that the residence where many of the Cardinals stayed during the Conclave, including the future Pope, was under surveillance.  But again, there is no source for the report.
