West Virginia Shooter Had Stomach Cancer
WHEELING, W. Va. (WKRC) -- The retired police officer who fired up to two dozen shots at a federal courthouse in West Virginia waved people out of harms way before opening fire.
Officers still don't know why Thomas Piccard fired the rounds but they say he found out in the past few days he had stomach cancer.
Three off-duty security officers were injured by flying debris.
Piccard was armed with both an assault weapon and a handgun but officers aren't saying if he used both weapons in the shooting. Piccard was killed when officers returned fire.
