Dynamite Found in Local Home

WARREN COUNTY, Ohio (Larry Davis) --  Old dynamite has been found on Columbia Road near Walnut Grove Lane in Deerfield Township.

Dispatchers tell Local 12 a homeowner found fifty pounds of dynamite in their basement.  It happened about 2p.m. and Warren County Sheriff's Deputies are on the scene.  They've called in the Cincinnati Bomb Squad.

Columbia Road is shut down in that area.

Police have evacuated thirty four people from fifteen homes in the area.  The streets being evacuated are Paul's Point Court, Wood Lake Court, and Shady Lake Drive.

There is concern as to how old the dynamite is and police say they are unsure how long the dynamite has been there.

The bomb squad is going to remove the dynamite by digging a hole in the yard of the home it is located at and burying it.  They will then set fire to it.

There will be no explosion and neighbors should not expect any kind of blast. The dynamite will burn off and make for a safe removal from the area.
