Man Pulled from Burning Home

HAMILTON, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- A man is rescued from his Hamilton home when a fire breaks out.

Firefighters responded to Carver Place near Knightsbridge Tuesday after the kitchen caught fire.   Crews heard calls for help coming from one of the bedrooms.

The guys at the Hamilton Fire Department will tell you it takes very little fire to make a lot of smoke in a short amount of time to kill someone.
But familiarity with the address and the person who lived there not only saved time, but probably a life.

The fire started in the kitchen; neighbors were outside when firefighters arrived.

Inside firefighters heard cries for help and found 70 year old James Patterson in a side bedroom.  He was pulled to safety.

Patterson was a basketball star back in the 60s at Hamilton Taft High School and Miami University.  He went on to play in the NBA.

Hamilton Firefighters and paramedics have made medical runs to Pattersons home in the past.  When they heard the address of the fire Tuesday night, they knew to look for someone inside.

Patterson did speak with Larry Davis on the phone from his hospital room and says he is doing fine.
