Cincinnati Zoo Manatee Returned to Florida

CINCINNATI (WKRC) --  A manatee was returned to Florida, after undergoing rehabilitation at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Woodstock suffered cold stress and was rescued in January of 2011. She joined two other manatees who underwent rehabilitation at the Columbus Zoo. Pixie and Wheezy were driven to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport and together all three were flown to Florida in an effort organizers called the "Sea Cow Shuffle".

Experts in Florida hope to release all three back into Florida in late winter. Two of them will be outfitted with satellite tracking devices to monitor how they're doing.

The Cincinnati Zoo's new manatee is named Abigail. She was rescued in Florida earlier this year and has been getting care at SeaWorld Orlando. She'll join Betsy who is already at Manatee Springs at the Cincinnati Zoo. She'll remain behind the scenes for a few days after her arrival.
