Teen Battles Liver Cancer Through Homecoming Queen Nomination

HAMILTON, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- Its homecoming season for area high school students.

One local teenager says she is living a dream; she's nominated to be Homecoming Queen.  Olivia Payne from New Miami High School is battling liver cancer.  Despite chemotherapy treatments, Olivias determined to make it to Thursday nights parade and tomorrow's homecoming game.  Local 12 News reporter Larry Davis caught up with Olivia Thursday on her big day.

Olivia Payne could be crowned this years Homecoming Queen as she wages a major fight against cancer.  She has only been at school for three days this year because of her liver cancer.  Diagnosed in early September, she has spent a lot of time in the hospital surrounded by family and friends.

Olivia keeps up with her schoolwork online.  And even though she has been away from school, her classmates voted her onto the homecoming court. 

She has pushed aside her wheelchair and is determined to walk out onto the football field Friday night.

Bead bracelets she made herself connect Olivia with her friends and family as she battles against liver cancer. 

Olivia wants to win fair and square, just like anybody else.  But she admits a crown for Homecoming Queen would be pretty special.
