Prosecutor seeks maximum for Ohio DUI confessor
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- An Ohio prosecutor says the maximum sentence for a man who confessed in an online video to a fatal wrong way crash would be in line with several similar cases where tough sentences were handed down.
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien cites 13 recent cases of aggravated vehicular homicide with an average sentence of 7.9 years.
In a Friday court filing O'Brien asked for the maximum of eight years for defendant Matthew Cordle, who pleaded guilty last month to aggravated vehicular homicide and driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol in the June death of Vincent Canzani.
Attorneys for Cordle have asked for a sentence well below the maximum to send a message about the value of taking responsibility.
