Police Officer Indicted on Several Charges
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A grand jury has indicted a Cincinnati police offer on several charges connected to a relationship with an underage girl and a fake police substation. It's a story Local 12 was first to tell you about last week.
Officer Darrell Beavers is charged with receiving nude pictures from an underage girl, theft in office and tampering with evidence.
The investigation began when the parents of a 17-year-old girl, who was a member of the police Explorer's program, found photos of a sexual nature on her phone. They believe the pictures came from Officer Beavers. He's also accused of setting up a police substation in a West Price Hill apartment complex. The fake substation apartment had been paid for by the owners of the apartment complex.
Investigators searched the apartment, which police didn't know existed. They found a bed, a night vision camera, lubricant, a video game system, computer and a projector.
The theft in office charge comes from the use of the apartment for free while claiming it was for official business. The tampering charge is connected to accusations that Officer Beavers destroyed a cell phone after he learned of the investigation.
If he's convicted of all charges, Beavers faces up to 8 and a half years in prison.
