East Side Fire Departments Train Together

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Firefighters on the east side of town teamed up for training Wednesday.

The east group is made up of ten departments from Anderson Township, Madeira-Indian Hill, Mariemont along with several others.

They practiced live fire exercises together at the Cincinnati Fire Department training facilities.

Smaller departments routinely get help from neighboring jurisdictions when they battle fires. The training gives the departments a chance to become familiar with one another in a real-life fire scenario.

Says Indian Hill and Madeira Fire Chief Steve Ashbrock, "it's all about communication and cooperation. So if they know each other, if we're all working from the same sheet of music, if we all have the same procedures, the same approach to administration and command, it all just works pretty well."

The east group meets regularly, participating in joint training sessions once a month.
