Teen Fighting Cancer is Crowned Homecoming Queen
HAMILTON, Ohio (Hannah Jones) -- It's homecoming season for area high school students and one local teenager says she is living a dream; she was nominated to be on her high school Homecoming court.
Olivia Payne from New Miami High School is battling liver cancer.
And not only was Olivia voted by her fellow peers to be on the Homecoming court, she was crowned Queen.
Despite chemotherapy treatments, Olivia has participated in the Homecoming parade and Friday's homecoming game.
While she has only been at school for three days this year because of her liver cancer, the student body was in full support of Olivia as she received her crown.
Diagnosed in early September, she has spent a lot of time in the hospital surrounded by family and friends. Olivia keeps up with her schoolwork online.
She pushed aside her wheelchair Friday night and walked out onto the football field with the rest of the court.
Olivia said of her win, "It is amazing!"
She said she would have been happy no matter what, but this night was extra special.
