Traffic Camera Fight: Video with Safety Message

HAMILTON, Ohio (WKRC) -- Leaders in the city of Hamilton join those in Columbus and Springfield to push back against efforts by lawmakers to ban traffic cameras.

The three groups joined forces on a video that drives home a message of safety.

Sgt. Ed Buns of the Hamilton Police Department said, "Don't take one big shotgun approach and tell everyone no you can't do this when it's a very valuable tool the message is one of safety."

Cameras that monitor traffic lights and check for speeders reduce crashes.  In the video a local police officer says the cameras aren't about raising money and he says the results speak for themselves.

Sgt Buns continues, "If one entity is perceived in not in the best interest of the public deal with that entity on an individual basis, don't tell everybody and those of us who use technology in a responsible reasonable manner that you can't use technology that's available."

A bill to ban cities from using traffic cameras passed the state House and now is before the Senate.
