Survey: Most Annoying 'Comfort' Phrases
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- When someone is going through a tough time, it can be hard to know what to say.
A new survey suggests that most of us are doing it wrong when it comes to consoling another with words.
The survey asked 5,000 people in Britain, "What are the most annoying phrases used to comfort someone?" The number one answer... "Get a grip," with 74% of women and 62% of men saying they hate the phrase.
The rest of the top five are:
#2 - "Pull yourself together."
#3 - "There, there..."
#4 - "Pain is just weakness leaving the body."
#5 - "Keep a stiff upper lip."
