Suspect Accused of Hitting Officer and Trying to Take Gun

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (WKRC) -- Police arrest a man who they say tried to take an officer's gun during his arrest for assaulting a woman.

Officer Morgan Hedrick responded to the home on Randy Avenue on Sunday for a domestic battery call. When he got there he says he saw Joseph Schuler behaving erratically with blood on his hands. He was also making threats to take an officer's gun and kill everyone.

When Officer Hedrick tried to detain Schuler, Schular ran into the home. He says Schuler came at him and hit him repeatedly in the face, breaking his nose. He also tried to take his gun. More officers arrived and were able to help Officer Hedrick arrest him.

Officer Hedrick was treated at the hospital for injuries and released. The woman Schuler is accused of beating told police Schuler hit her in the face, threw her against the wall and choked her. She told police she had broken up with Schuler. She also said Schuler is bi-polar and had stopped taking his medications because he can't afford them.

Schuler is charged with attempted murder, battery resulting in serious bodily injury and criminal mischief.
