Man Accused of Murdering Ex-Girlfriend Appears in Court

FAIRFIELD, Ohio (Adam Clements) -- A man charged with killing the mother of his child, appears in court for the first time to answer to a murder charge.

Nicholas Delaney allegedly shot and killed 24-year-old Samantha Decker at her home in Fairfield last Thursday. Local 12 news reporter Adam Clements was in court for today's hearing.

A very emotional scene inside the Fairfield Municipal Courthouse Tuesday morning. We got our first look at the man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, since he turned himself into police on Friday. Nicholas Delaney was arraigned for the murder of Decker.

Police say Delaney was waiting inside Decker's apartment when she arrived home early Thursday morning with her current boyfriend Ian Myers.

Delaney allegedly opened fire, shooting and killing Decker. Myers was not hurt and called 911.

After two days on the run, Delaney turned himself into police Friday afternoon.

Friends and family of both Delaney and Decker sat in the courtroom, many of them crying and visibly upset, as Delaney entered a plea of not guilty.

A man sitting with Samantha Decker's family shouted out murderer as Nicholas Delaney was brought before the judge.

Delaney's attorney says "we're going to let the process work its way through. It's a difficult time and it's a tragedy.  A young lady is dead and a three-year-old is without two parents, it's a tragedy.

Says Decker's stepfather Mark Koehler, "it's basically a tragedy for both families. Right now, we're not going to make any additional comments."

The judge set Delaney's bond at one $1.5 million dollars. If convicted, he could face 15 years to life in prison.
