New Taser Study Recommendations

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A new report could sharpen rules on how local police use taser guns.

A report obtained by the Associated Press contains recommendations from nine different local police agencies.  The report, which has not been released publicly, identifies several areas where improvements can be made to some police department policies.

The study was prepared for departments that belong to the Hamilton County Association of Chiefs of Police.  One of the recommendations includes urging officers to avoid taser shots to the chest.  It also suggests annual testing to make sure the devices are working properly.

The report also says when possible, officers should warn suspects they're about to be stunned and that it may carry the risk of injury or death.

The report comes after five suspect deaths attributed to tasers since 2009.
