November means facial hair
UNDATED (WKRC) -- It's "No Shave November" or "Movember", the month to raise awareness for men's health.
The facial hair growing contest "No Shave November" has participants not shaving at all for the month. The goal is to grow an entire beard and at the end of the November, shave a unique mustache. This raises awareness to hair, which many cancer patients lose. The money typically spent on shaving/grooming is to be donated to educate about cancer prevention and to aid those fighting the battle.
The "Movember" movement aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and treatments. It is more focused on raising funds for testicular and prostate cancer research. The month is to begin with a clean shaved face. For the next 30 days, each man must grow and groom a mustache, with no beard.
According to the American Cancer Society, one in six men in their lifetime could be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Since its origin in 2004, "Movember" has raised $299 million global funds.
