Drug Gang Shattered as Leader Pleads Guilty
CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio (Rich Jaffe) -- For years Local 12 has told you about problems in Union Township's Picadilly Apartments.
According to police and township trustees most of those problems are caused by one thing, illegal drugs. Friday, in the first case of its kind, members of a gang selling those drugs pleaded guilty and are headed to prison. Local 12's Rich Jaffe was in court today as the ringleader, Raeshawn Wilson, surprised everyone and took responsibility for his crimes.
According to a Clermont County prosecutor, Raseshawn Wilson's life of crime began when he was 12 years old. The latest chapter was written in this courtroom Friday.
Wilson was the leader of a heroin trafficking gang that moved from Cincinnati to the Picadilly Apartments in Union Township in July 2012.
In prison for 9 of the last 10 years, Wilson and his gang set up shop selling drugs in Picadilly using threats, intimidation and violence.
Jason Nagel, Assistant Clermont County Prosecutor, said, Until these drug dealers are punished for facilitating this plague they have brought upon our very county we will continue to see violent crimes being committed, homes being broken into and overdoses resulting in deaths. In addition to the drug epidemic we have in our county based on individuals just like the defendant, you have the defendants propensity for violence.
Wilson's crime empire fell apart when he and other gang members beat up and robbed one of their own, Justin Reynolds, who was suspected of stealing some of Raeshawns heroin. Wilson held a 45 caliber handgun to Reynolds head as his buddies beat him. Reynolds only escaped by jumping out a second floor window at the apartments.
Union Township police and the Clermont County Sheriff's narcotics unit quickly and effectively took advantage of the gangs internal problems; making cases on five gang members.
Friday in court Wilson apologized to his victims and family members asking the judge for mercy. What he got was 20 years in prison.
Four other members of Raeshawn Wilson's gang were scheduled for trial. One of them, Jarrese Williams, also pleaded guilty Friday and only Local 12 was in court for his plea.
