Video Asks Public for Help in Officer's Murder

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WKRC) -- The murder of a Bardstown police officer who grew up in Clermont County remains unsolved and, colleagues of officer Jason Ellis are making a plea on video for help in solving the case.

Ellis was on his way home from work when he was shot and killed in May at an exit ramp along a rural highway.  He was hit with multiple shotgun blasts when he got out of his cruiser to remove tree branches from the road.  Those branches, officers say, were intentionally put there to lure him out of his car.

State Police Lieutenant Jeremy Thompson makes the plea.

"An individual capable of a heinous crime must be kept off our streets.  Our investigation continues and we gain new information daily.  But I'm here asking for your help.  The FBI has recently increased the reward another $50,000.  This brings the reward to well over 185, 000 for information leading to the arrest for those responsible for the murder of officers Jason Ellis."

The officer asks anyone with information to call either of the numbers below:
270-766-5078

800-222-5555
