Woodlawn Neighborhood Rattled by Murder
A Woodlawn neighborhood was reeling Saturday after learning a man had been killed during an apparent home invasion robbery.
The incident happened on Chester Road late Friday night. Brandon Simms and his fiance Takesha Wright got home around 11 p.m. and pulled into their garage. A shooter was apparently inside that garage.
Brandon Simms was shot and killed. Takesha Wright was also shot. The couple's 2 year-old daughter was in her car seat just a few feet away and was not injured.
Takesha Wright was taken to the hospital and was released Saturday.
Nancy Fitzgerald, who lives across the street, was visibly shaken Saturday.
"I would like to know a little more . . . so maybe I could do something differently," she told Local 12 reporter Adam Clements.
"I mean it's frightening, especially how it happened. They're saying it was a robbery so it could have been me," she added.
Another neighbor said it just hits too close to home.
"You hate when it happens anywhere, but when it happens right next door it's like a wake up call that you aren't as safe as you think you are," she said.
But she also said the violence won't consume her.
"I can't live in fear. I'm not going to be a hostage to the world . . . because it can happen in the blink of an eye."
Witnesses told police they saw two men wearing ski masks running from the home right around the time of the shooting.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Woodlawn Police at (513) 771-8480 or Crimestoppers at (513) 352-3040.
