Person of Interest Identified in Fairfield Teen's Murder
Family and friends of a Fairfield teen murdered one year ago gathered to remember him Friday evening and to ask for anyone with information in his death to come forward.
Police have identified a person of interest in Joey Oakley's murder. Oakley was found shot to death on August 31, 2012 near a creekbed off Pleasant Ave. His mother gathered with family and friends on a bridge that overlooks the creek. She brought Joey's ashes and flowers so people could say goodbye to him.
"It's very hard. I haven't slept in three days. So I just keep playing it in my mind over and over and over," Angie Oakley said.
Several friends of Joey's gathered around his mother. Bobbi Withers and Joey were friends since they were babies.
"It's really hard. A lot of people miss him. We just want justice for him," Withers said.
Despite the fact there hasn't been an arrest in Joey's death, Angie Oakley said she has full confidence in the Fairfield Police detective working her son's case.
"I know a lot of people think they're not on it, but they're very on it," Oakley said. She added, "He always thought about everyone else but himself. Even at 12 years old he was just like such a mother hen. but I don't get to see that now."
Joey Oakley would have turned 20 last December. To mark the birthday her son never got to celebrate, his mother and friends lighted Chinese lanterns for him. She's hoping someone with information about his death will come forward.
"He knows we're thinking about him...If someone could please come forward. like I said we do have a person of interest. please if you know anything."
Crimestoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information in Joey Oakley's murder. Anyone with information is asked to call 513-352-3040. Callers remain anonymous.
