Prosecutor's Fund Criticized

A social justice organization calls for a state investigation into how Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters distributes money forfeited by criminal defendants.
The Cincinnati chapter of the National Action Network says Deters gave out more than five-and-a-half-million dollars between 2003 and 2012,  for computer services, and such things as television sets, dinners for a holiday party, and personal parking fees.
The group also says Deters gave money to 16 parochial and two suburban public schools, but nothing in the inner city.
Spokesperson Cecil Thomas says there is no oversight for where the money goes and no fairness in how it is given out.
Cecil Thomas, Cinti. National Action Network:
"Mr. Deters has sole control and I asked the question how do you do outreach into the community so people are aware of the money. He said we don't have a policy or procedure, which basically tells me his distribution is deliberate to whom he chooses to give it to."

Deters response ... and this is a quote... "Cecil Thomas is an idiot.  He can go to law school and run for prosecutor."
Thomas says a statement like that is proof of Deters' arrogance.
Thomas' group says there should be an oversight committee to distribute the money, as well as an attorney general's investigation.
