Man Accused In Child's Death In Court

A local man who faces child endangering charges in connection with the death of a one year old boy appeared in a Butler County courtroom today.

We are learning new details in the case of Dylan Tompkins.  Local 12 News Reporter Larry Davis was in the courtroom for today's preliminary hearing and shares what happened in court.

One year old Bryce Pelfrey died of his injuries last weekend. Police were called to a home on Marlou Drive last Friday, for a report of a child not breathing.

Bryce's mother testified at today's preliminary hearing about leaving Bryce and her daughter in Tompkin's care when she went to work, and then getting a phone call that Bryce was not breathing.

A detective testified that Tompkins told him that Bryce vomited several times, and he squeezed him to make him stop. Tompkins also said he slapped the child on the back and shook him.

Tompkins remains jailed on a $150,000 bond. The case will be turned over to a Butler County Grand Jury.

Funeral services for Bryce Pelfrey will be held Saturday morning. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. There will be a Justice for Bryce service in Joyce Park at two o'clock after the burial.
