Shooting At Ft. Thomas Office Park
One man is dead and his estranged wife fights for her life after an attempted murder-suicide rocked the Fort Thomas community this morning.
Just before 9am, police were called out to a scene for multiple shots fired at the medical office building on 20 North Grand Ave in Fort Thomas, KY.
Police say a man driving a SUV parked around the corner from the building and waited for his wife to show up to work.
When she arrived, he chased her into the office building and shot her in the lobby before turning the gun on himself.
The woman, identified as Alisha Waters Mathis, is now in critical condition at University Hospital Medical Center but out of surgery.
Court documents show Alisha Mathis filed April 16, 2013 for an emergency protective order for protection from her husband, Dennis Mathis.
That was dismissed in court 6 days later, the same day Dennis Mathis filed for divorce from Alisha.
Officers responding to the initial call thought they had an active shooter and evacuated employees and others. Once inside the building, they found the two bodies lying in the lobby.
Earlier today exit 3 on I-471 to Grand Avenue was closed due to the incident, but it has since reopened.
Local 12 has several crews working this story and will have the latest information throughout the day on Local 12.
