Child Injured, Malnourished
UPDATE: 8-15-2013 - 10:30P.M.
Jerry Roy describes Christina Sturgill as a monster. Sturgill was charged with child endangering Wednesday.
"I thought, there's no way that can be the same Christina Sturgill. There's no way. And sure enough it is," said Roy.
Investigators say Sturgill's seven year old daughter had bruising, bite marks, and a black eye. The girl was also severely malnourished.
"For a mother to not seek medical attention, that's just, that's, I can't even comprehend that."
Roy knows all about Sturgill's violent past. He was the lead investigator for Newport Police when Sturgill faced similar charges in the late nineties.
"The case that we had was an infant child, approximately six months of age. She had been put up for adoption. The adoptive parents noticed something that led them to believe something was wrong with the child's legs. They took it to the hospital, and it turned out the child had between eight and twelve fractures."
Roy added, "I mean I had abuse cases, but nothing where there was this abuse that occurred, where they never sought medical attention for the injuries."
Sturgill was arraigned this morning. Her two children are in foster care.
On her Facebook page, she says she's pregnant with another child.
"She shouldn't be around a child" said Roy "She shouldn't raise a child, she doesn't need to be around children period, hers or anyone else's."
A judges orders a high bond for a woman who faces child endangering charges.
Christina Sturgill is held on a one million dollar bond.
The mother from West Price Hill appeared in court Thursday, accused of starving her young daughter.
Investigators say the abuse started in at least January, when Sturgill's daughter appeared in public extremely thin.
There are reports that date back to June that indicate the seven-year-old had bruising, bite marks and a black eye. The child was also missing chunks of hair.
Sturgill also faced child endangering charges back in 2007.
Investigators say she placed tape over her then-infant's mouth, and allowed another person to cause multiple bone fractures.
