City Council Member Helps Shooting Victim

OVER-THE-RHINE, Ohio (WKRC) -- A man is shot during a robbery attempt in Over-the-Rhine, and a Cincinnati City Council member is right there to call 911 and help the man in the moments after.

Someone shot the victim in the leg near Clay and Melindy streets just before 11:00 Tuesday night. It was just a few feet away from Chris Seelbach's home.

Seelbach says he heard two pops, and looked down to see the man running. When he asked what happened, the man told him he'd been shot.

Seelbach called 911 on his way out the door, and crews talked him through what to do. "I just took my hands and put pressure on his thigh and at that time a lot of our neighbors were coming out and 911 said you just need some cloth or dry material, so we got some more cloth and put those between my hands and his thigh and just held that."

Seelbach says the man told him he was walking with headphones when he was approached. His advice: always be aware of your surroundings, no matter where you are.

Police say the victim is expected to survive.
