Officials Say Navy Yard Shooter Had Mental Issues

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKRC) -- Local 12 is learning more about the Navy Yard triggerman, but investigators say they still don't know a motive for the mass shooting.

Navy officials say Aaron Alexis had a string of misconducts during his time in the service, but received an honorable discharge in 2011.

Alexis had also had run-ins with police over two shootings incidents.  One in Fort Worth and one in Seattle but he was never charged.

Clues are also emerging that he suffered from serious mental illness.

Officials say he suffered from paranoia, a sleep disorder and heard voices.

FBI agents raided the home of family members in Brooklyn but they say Alexis had been estranged from them for some time.

They say he suffered post traumatic stress disorder after the September 11th attacks and moved to Texas.
