Ohio to Use a New 2-Drug Combo in Execution
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKRC) -- The state of Ohio will use a two-drug injection to put to death an inmate who raped and killed his girlfriend's two year old daughter.
The state has never tried this combination of drugs which includes a painkiller and a sedative, although they are part of the state's backup plan.
The drugs will be injected directly into the inmate's muscle rather than his veins. No state has used these drugs in an execution before.
The decision to use them means the department of rehabilitation and correction was not able to get enough Pentobarbital. That's a drug the state used until its manufacturer made it off- limits for executions.
