Volleyball Coach Facing Sex Abuse Charges
CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WKRC/ Angela Ingram) -- A local volleyball coach is in jail accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
Police say Joshua Fisher works as a private volleyball coach. He has also served as the Lakota East girls' junior varsity volleyball coach.
Lakota East school administrators say they just learned of the charges from Montgomery County Monday.
Fisher made his living as a coach for multiple organizations.
This investigation began in Centerville, which is just outside of Dayton. Police say the encounters happened in the past two months. Centerville police say they learned about the relationship after reports started coming in from the victim's friends.
Officers say they acted quickly conducting the investigation and arresting Joshua Fisher. He is at the Montgomery County Jail and has been there since Friday.
Police say he met up with the victim at multiple locations in Centerville and Fisher and the victim would use social media to coordinate their meetings. Detectives say he met the girl through private volleyball lessons.
Monday Lakota East sent home a letter telling parents about the charges. The letter also says that Fisher has been told to have "no further contact with any Lakota students."
Centerville police say it's important to send a strong message about cases like this. Lakota administrators say Fischer is not a teacher at Lakota East, he is under contract strictly as a coach. They say all coaches have to go through background checks before they are employed with the district. Fisher passed his background check when he began working for the district in the 2012-2013 school year.
Fisher is in the Montgomery County Jail. He's charged with five counts of sexual battery and one count of sexual imposition.
