Cold Spring Man Killed by Hit and Run Driver

COLD SPRING, KY (Joe Webb) -- Cold Spring police are asking for your help to find the driver that hit  Lenny Shay and left him to die.

Were looking for help from the viewers, Cold Spring Police Chief Ed Burk told reporters  Tuesday morning. Were looking for a charcoal gray Toyota.  It should have front end damage and may have the grill missing.

Shay was hit on US 27 just a half mile south of the intersection with the AA - Highway.  Burk says surveillance cameras at a Speedway station show Lenny Shay in the story around 1 am.  A few minutes later, he was hit by a northbound car as he crossed the road on the way back to Rocky View Apartments.

We all walk across the street to go to the store.  He just happened to walk across on a bad night, neighbor Paris Van Benschoten told Local 12.  He was a really good guy.  A great Dad.  He was always home with his son making dinner and making sure his homework was done.  He was always willing to talk to somebody.

Van Benschoten says  she cant believe the driver kept on driving. Stand up. You did this.  You hurt somebody. You hurt a whole family.  Theres a wonderful man gone and a son who has no Dad now.

Burk says at this point the driver would face charges for leaving the scene of an accident.  Depending on the circumstances, the driver could be charged with reckless homicide.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them.  Cold Spring Police 859.441.6289  or the Campbell County Dispatch Center at 859.292.3622.
