Streetcar Project on Schedule and on Budget

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- City leaders got a better look at the street car Tuesday and learned that the sometimes controversial project is right on schedule.

A rendering of the streetcar was unveiled during a special projects meeting.  It blends a sleek, monorail design with the familiarity of a metro bus.  Developers also praised the accessibility of the streetcar, saying the doors make it easier for all ridede to get on board.

There are also plans to sell ads on the inside to off set the cost of the project and bring more money into the city's coffers.

Track installation is underway and the project is on target for completion in June of 2015.  The streetcar will travel a 3.6 mile loop from Second Street at The Banks on the riverfront to Henry Street just north of Findlay Market in Over the Rhine.

Developers have not determined how much riders will have to pay.  They say passengers could pay nothing, at least initially, if the cost was somehow subsidized.
