House Fire that Killed 4 People Had No Working Smoke Detectors

KETTERING, Ohio (WKRC) -- The state fire marshall says there were no working smoke detectors in a home that was ripped apart by a deadly fire.

Four people were killed in the fire in Kettering Thursday morning.  Two of them were children, one of them was their mother, and the other was their grandfather.

They say the grandfather initially escaped but ran back in to try to save the others.  The fire chief says they couldn't get into the home because the flames were so intense.

The home is gone and two surrounding houses also have damage.

There were three other people in the house, 2 kids and their father.  They were able to make it out safely.

Firefighters say the father tried several times to get back into the house and get everybody out it just didn't work.
