Former Beechwood band director in court on rape and other charges

KENTON COUNTY, Ky (WKRC) -- A former Beechwood High School band director  answered to sex charges in court Monday afternoon.

Kenneth Owens is locked up in the Kenton County Detention Center. Officers arrested him on Friday.  A judge kept his bond at $25,000 during his arraignment.

Prosecutors say he was in a two-year sexual relationship with one of his students at Beechwood High School. That student was 14 years old when the alleged relationship began in 2004.

He faces charges of rape, sodomy and sexual abuse in connection with that investigation.

Owens left Beechwood in 2009 to go to Grant County. Grant County officials also filed charges against Owens after he allegedly fondled a student twice. The alleged Beechwood victim came forward after the Grant County case became public.

Local 12 also learned Monday that Owens is indicted on a sexual abuse charge in Boone County. The alleged victim is under 18 and the charge is related to his position of authority.
