Tens of thousands gather to remember Nelson Mandela

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (WKRC) -- Despite the steady rain, the mood at a soccer stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, Tuesday has been one of celebration. Nearly 100 heads of state and government were among the tens of thousands who gathered to remember Nelson Mandela, who died last week at the age of 95.

President Obama received thunderous applause for a speech in which he urged the world to embrace Mandela's universal message of peace and justice. "And while I will always fall short of Madiba's example, he makes me want to be a better man."

There was also a sign of warming relations between the United States and Cuba at Tuesday's memorial service. While on his way to the podium, President Obama shook hands with Cuban president Raul Castro.
