Driver charged for 2012 crash that killed pregnant woman

SOUTHGATE, Ky. (WKRC) -- A grand jury indicts a driver who's accused of causing the accident that killed a pregnant woman and her unborn child.

Police say 29-year-old Erik Dixon was driving on I-471 near I-275, when he lost control of his minivan, crossed the median and flipped. Police say his van hit several other cars, including one in which Lori Howe was riding. She and two other people were thrown from their car. Lori died, she was 26 weeks along. Doctors delivered her baby by C-section but he lived for just two minutes.

Seven other people were injured. The crash shut down the highway for hours.

Dixon crashed in July of 2012. No word why the indictment comes 17 months later. He's charged with manslaughter and fetal homicide.

Howe left behind her boyfriend and their 5-year-old son.
