Your change equals extra cash at TSA
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) -- It all adds up, last year folks flying out of Palm Beach International Airport left behind a good chunk of change before they even made it on their plane.
All the coins left in grey bins in security lines added up to nearly $2,000 in 2012 at PBIA. However, that figure isn't even close to the national amount of change that never makes it through security.
TSA officials say the amount of undeclared cash last year soared to $531,000 dollars. I know what you are asking yourself, where does that unaccounted money go?
Your spare change that you might miss becomes property of the TSA; they then use it towards aviation security project.
Florida republican Jeff Miller has the chance to change where that money goes. The representative has a bill in place that would take the left over coins to build top-end airport lounges for all active duty U.S. military personnel, veterans and their families.
That bill will be voted on this week and if approved the lounges for military personnel won't be far behind at an airport near you.
