Brent Spence Bridge plan includes tolls

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- The transportation departments for Kentucky and Ohio have submitted the initial plan to fund a new Brent Spence Bridge. It does include tolls.

The Ohio Department of Transportation and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet submitted their plan to the Federal Highway Administration.

The plan outlines how Kentucky and Ohio might finance the new bridge and explains why it will require tolls. It also suggests a timetable for the project.

According to the plan it will cost $2.63 billion for a new bridge. The states propose a public-private partnership to build, operate and maintain the bridge.

The report suggests construction should begin in 2016 and run through 2020.

The report does not say how long drivers would be tolled in order to pay off the project because it does not include a toll rate. The plan must be approved by the Kentucky legislature. Lawmakers are required to approve tolls.
