Police Shooting Suspect Due for Hospital Release

COVINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) -- A military veteran police say held his children hostage for more than 15 hours during a stand off is expected to be released from the hospital soon.

When he is, 43-year-old Michael Vaughn will be taken to the Hamilton County Jail.  Kenton County will then begin the process of extraditing him to Kentucky.

Covington Police plan to charge Vaughan with attempted murder of a police officer.  Officers say Vaughn held them at bay for hours, set fire to a home in Latonia and exchanged gunfire with officers before surrendering eight days ago.

Police believe Vaughan suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.
