Crews Install Still for Party Source Bourbon Distillery
NEWPORT, Ky. (Adam Clements) -- The newest addition to the Party Source in Newport takes another step towards completion Thursday. Crews are installing the copper still that makes the bourbon at the new Riff Distillery. Local 12's Adam Clements tells us why this is such a big deal.
This has to have bourbon enthusiasts in the Tri-State very excited, especially considering the popularity of the spirit right now. Construction is well on its way for this facility that in addition to serving as a microdistillery will also feature a banquet hall and catering capabilities.
Thursday, is all about that big copper still. It was delivered from Louisville Thursday morning. It's considered the heartbeat of any distillery, or in this case, microdistillery. Crews are using a crane to place this tall skinny still in the middle of four beams
In terms of bourbon production, the new Riff Distillery will produce about twelve or thirteen batches of bourbon per day once it's up and running.
Party Source bourbon guru Jay Erisman says fans will have to be patient. "It's the right time to strike to get some bourbon made, however we won't have any bourbon until it ages. We have about 4 or 5 years to wait after that. So it pays to be patient in Kentucky bourbon."
Another cool part about this microdistillery, once it's open for business it'll be added as a destination on the Kentucky bourbon trail. So folks across the river won't have to go far to get a taste of this hometown favorite.
The new Riff Distillery is expected to open in the spring of 2014.
