Father of Congressman on Leave Speaks Out About Family Issues
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- The father of a Florida Congressman from the tri-state says there is a family history of addictive behavior.
Elder grad Trey Radel is taking leave from Congress for substance abuse treatment. His father Henry "Skip" Radel still lives here. He says Trey called him in tears after his October 29th arrest for buying cocaine in a Washington neighborhood.
Radel's father says the Republican Congressman hasn't been back to his native Cincinnati in 18 months, but he calls home every week.
Congressman Radel pleaded guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor cocaine possession charge.
"I hope to come out of this a stronger and better man for all of you."
Skip Radel says Trey's mother, Kathy, had alcohol issues. He says she choked to death at her son's December 2009 wedding reception in Fort Myers, Florida.
