Cranley Meets with Federal Transit Authority Administrator
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Friday Cincinnati's mayor John Cranley met with Federal Transit Administration Administrator, Peter Rogoff.
Cranley requested the FTA give Cincinnati an extension of the December 19th deadline to restart streetcar construction.
Rogoff refused the deadline extension.
The newly elected mayor then asked if Rogoff would take a call from a streetcar supporter advocate to allow them an opportunity to request an extension. He agreed to take the call. A press release states Cranley and his staff are working to make that call happen.
If Cincinnati builds the streetcar ti is required by the federal government to operate the system for at least 25 years. Because of that, others may not feel an incentive to contribute to the operating cost. Therefore, a legally binding agreement to cover the streetcar's operating costs with private funding must be in place for construction to continue.
