Rental Office Robbery Foiled in Mt. Airy

CINCINNATI (Larry Davis) -- Police search for a thief in Mt. Airy who may be covered in powder from a fire extinguisher.

The suspect tried to rob the rental office at Vista Village Apartments on Hill Vista Lane on Friday morning.

It is an amazing story of bravery.  A man walked into the rental office and demanded the apartment manager turn over some money.  But the manager was not going to give up without a fight.  She shot the suspect with a fire extinguisher.

Cincinnati police were called the apartment complex around 9:30a.m.  At first it was reported as a home invasion and robbery.  But, it turned out to be the rental office.  Police say a black man wearing a red bandana around his face walked in, pointed a gun at the office manager several times, and demanded money.

72-year-old Cheryl Arnold, the office manager at Vista Village Apartments, fought back.

"He pulled the drawer open and looked and there wasn't anything in it and he walked around to the front of the desk and I grabbed the fire extinguisher and blasted him with it.  I kept shooting at it, and the whole room was covered with the fire extinguisher dust and he ran out the door."

The suspect fled the scene covered from head to toe with the dry chemical from that fire extinguisher.

Cincinnati police had a K9 unit out tracking the suspect through the neighborhood.  They were unable to locate him and at this time he is still on the run.
