Benefit for Sheriff's Office Pilot Fighting Cancer
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - There was a benefit Saturday night for a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office pilot fighting cancer.
Roger Hinkle was diagnosed with gastric cancer 2 years ago. He has undergone a lot of treatment, including chemotherapy. Recently, another mass was discovered on his liver.
Hinkle said he was having problems getting his insurance company to approve an operation to deal with this most recent development. That's when the benefit was organized.
It took place at the Woodlands Reception Hall in Whitewater Township. Close to 700 people turned out for the event which includes a buffet dinner, raffles and a silent auction.
Hinkle had very good news for those that attended Saturday night's event. He said that the VA had decided to pay for the operation. He's expected to get it soon and will be in the hospital 5-10 days. His hope is to get certified again and return to full duty as a pilot for the Sheriff's Office.
