Three Women Freed After 30 Years of Captivity
LONDON, England (WKRC) -- A shocking and disturbing story out of London on Thursday.
Police there say three women, held captive as slaves for 30 years, are free.
They were rescued after one of the women contacted a charity, which then contacted police. The group include a 69-year-old Malaysian woman, a 57-year-old Irish woman and a 30-year-old British woman.
Detective Inspector Kevin Hyland said, "These women have been kept in servitude or forced labor and away from society for 30 years so they've got no contact with what society is like. We are working very slowly with them with professionals in order to get their account of the experiences they encountered."
The head of the police force's human trafficking unit says it established that the women did have some controlled freedom but all had been held for at least 30 years.
Two people are in custody in London. Police say they are in their 60's and are non-British Nationals.
