Thanksgiving Food Distribution Begins at Freestore Foodbank
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- The Freestore Foodbank begins handing out its holiday food distribution Monday. Thousands of people in need in the Tri-State will get help putting a Thanksgiving meal on the table during the three-day event. Perry Schaible took a look at the line.
It's the busiest time of the year for the Freestore Foodbank. People started lining up at the Over-the-Rhine distribution center at 1 a.m., seven hours before food distribution began. At least 50 people were in line by 6:30 a.m.
The Freestore Foodbank gives out enough food to help 25,000 people in need over the holidays. Dennis Whissel was the second person in line. The Elmwood Place man says he's met new friends. "I think it's nice they help people in need. I know they've been around quite a few years. This is the first time I've come down for the Thanksgiving giveaway but it's a lot of fun, believe it or not. You're able to get food to get you though the holidays."
The boxes of food that are given out have enough food to feed a family of five. They include a turkey, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, fruits and vegetables. Distribution continues through noon on Wednesday.
