More people moving to Oregon
NEW YORK (Les Christie/CNN) -- Oregon was the big winner this year for percentage of people moving into a state versus moving out.
In an annual migration study by United Van Lines, 61 percent of all moves made in and out of Oregon in 2013 were people moving into the state.
That's the highest percentage among the states.
Oregon replaced Washington, DC, which had held the top spot on the list for the past five years, as workers sought out government jobs.
The nation's capital fell to fourth place last year, tying with South Dakota.
The other states with the highest levels of people moving in compared to moving out were South Carolina, North Carolina and Nevada.
What's the attraction of Oregon?
A UCLA economist said young professionals and retirees are drawn to amenities such as public transit, green space and local arts and entertainment.
Housing costs are also very attractive compared to California.
