Covington man accused of firing shots during standoff in court
KENTON COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) -- A man, accused of holding his family hostage in his home the weekend before Christmas, is ordered held on a quarter of a million dollar bond. Michael Vaughan appeared in a Kenton County court Friday.
During the 20-hour standoff in Covington, the veteran held his children hostage, shot at police and tried to set his house on fire.
Police believe post-traumatic stress disorder triggered the violence. He surrendered to police after an officer shot him in the arm.
After he release from the hospital, Vaughan was locked up in the Hamilton County Justice Center. He waived his extradition hearing Thursday. Vaughan is charged with the attempted murder of a police officer.
