Three Hamilton County parks to allow ice skating on ponds

WINTON WOODS, Ohio (WKRC) -- For the first time in while, Hamilton County Parks will open ponds at three of its parks for ice skating.  The other two are Miami Whitewater and Woodland Mound.

Ranger Ricky Dove tells Adam Clements that it's the first time in at least four or five years, the parks have been able to allow ice skating on any of its ponds.

Dove says at least 4 inches of clear ice is needed before it's safe for people to skate on it. Clear ice is stronger than cloudy ice. Dove demonstrated how the parks department drills into the ice to measure the depth of the ice.
The chance to ice skate at these ponds may not last long. Temperatures will near 50 degrees on Saturday.
