Inspirational Messages of Hope Fill Hospital
ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (Angela Ingram) -- Sometimes a positive mental attitude is better medicine for patients at one local hospital.
That's what gave a group of volunteers the idea for "Hope Jars" filled with messages for not only patients but staff there.
They're messages of encouragement all carefully selected with a common theme. The inspirational quotes are placed in decorative jars. Chaplain Sue Motz walks the halls of Mercy Health Anderson delivering a bit of sunshine along the way.
The idea started with staff members. A nurse supervisor kept a hope jar to inspire her team and put positive thoughts into their minds.
Sue's parents volunteer decorating the jars and carefully folding each message. Each jar has a different theme; some with general messages of hope and some specific to the patient.
Marie Pemberton's jar has cats to represent the pets waiting for her when she gets home from the hospital. Marie suffers from a number of health problems but says Sue and the Hope Jar have helped her.
With the messages and support from staff, Marie's found a way to focus on the positives in life. The volunteers say in this hospital, hope is infectious.
The group that puts together the Hope Jars is always looking for volunteers. CLICK HERE to donate and find more information.
